Anxiety is a manifestation of our
instinctual fight or flight responses, and a small degree of
anxiety in everyday life is normal. However when feelings of
anxiety become uncomfortable, more intense, more frequent or
last longer then anxiety and fear interfere with everyday life -
often quite severely.
The 'trigger' for these attacks
can be specific (e.g. an event, object, person, animal, etc.) or
completely random. There are a wide range of symptoms, ranging
through mild anxiety, panic attack,
fears and phobias - with the effects lasting from seconds to
weeks. People who suffer from any form of anxiety experience it
differently with combinations of the following physical
and emotional symptoms:
Shortness of breath or a feeling
of being smothered
Heart palpitations--pounding
heart or accelerated heart rate
Sweating
Nausea or abdominal distress
Dizziness, unsteadiness, or
faintness
Hot and cold flushes
Trembling or shaking
Feeling of choking
Numbness, pain, or tingling in
hands, feet, arms, legs, fingers, toes, lips, face.
Pain or discomfort in chest,
upper back, shoulder blades
The causes of anxiety and panic
attacks are many and varied and hypnotherapy is a powerful tool
for providing coping skills (in the form of relaxation
techniques to slow the heartbeat and gain control and balance
quickly). Hypnotherapy can alleviate symptoms through suggestion
work and uncover the original cause and allow a new
understanding through hypnoanalysis.
